Balance stool aka barbell aka side table
Beyond Imagination and into the possible.
Inspired by Italo Calvino’ Cosmicomics, “Balance”, is a quiet exploration of the possible. A conceptual abstraction transposed into an everyday item, through different forms. A stool by shape, a side table by aspiration, a barbell by abstraction- it sits somewhere between function and fantasy. Cast in lost wax bronze, its weight embodies strength and stability, yet its form feels playful, almost mischievous, playfully challenging our expectations of what a simple piece of furniture can become. The piece answers well to ‘What if it it were possible?, meeting a range of possible interpretations while challenging the observer to decide where function(ality) ends and art begins.
“And at the bottom of each of those eyes I lived, or rather another me lived, one of the images of me”,
Italo Calvino, Cosmicomics, 1965.
